(c) : $\mathrm{SiCl}_{4}$ undergoes hydrolysis because of the presence of vacant $d$-orbitals in the valence shell of Si . In case of carbon, there are no vacant $d$-orbitals to accommodate electron pairs donated by water molecules during hydrolysis. Both $\mathrm{SiCl}_{4}$ and $\mathrm{CCl}_{4}$ are covalent. Thus statement 1 is correct but statement 2 is not correct.\
