While in graphite, after $s p^{2}$ hybridisation one electron is free and it overlaps with another electron to form $\pi$-bond, thus bond length in graphite is shorter ( $1.42 \AA$ ) and bond order is higher than diamond. The $\pi$-electron is free to move thus graphite is good conductor of electricity but graphite is bad conductor of heat than diamond.\
