The electronic configuration of $\mathrm{O}_{2}$ molecule is\ $K K \sigma 2 s^{2}, \sigma^{*} 2 s^{2}, \sigma 2 p_{z}{ }^{2},\left(\pi 2 p_{x}{ }^{2}=\pi 2 p_{y}{ }^{2}ight)$, $\left(\pi^{*} 2 p_{x}{ }^{1}=\pi^{*} 2 p_{y}{ }^{1}ight)$. When electron transfer occurs, it occupies $\pi^{*} 2 p_{x}$ orbital, so bond order decreases from 2.0 to 1.5 hence, the bond length increases.
